Functions of the LMC
The Secretariat and the Committee ensure that General Practitioners are appropriately placed to represent their colleagues in positions of influence in the increasingly complex NHS management structure so that appropriate action is taken over strategic plans and day-to-day operational issues.
The advice and support is given to practitioners and practice managers over a wide range of issues affecting the running of practices, ranging from difficulties between partners to such things as the requirements of the legislation on health and safety at work. Advice and support is also given in the handling of complaints including, where necessary, accompanying and representing Practitioners who are the subject of Independent Reviews or the Disciplinary Procedures.
On contractual matters, the Committee relates to the General Practitioners Committee (GPC) of the British Medical Association.
