Barking & Dagenham PCTThe next round of GP appraisal is being organised at present. In July, an invitation was sent to all Barking and Dagenham GPs from our new administrator, Sue Davie. Sue is currently organising the next round during which GPs and their appraisers will arrange their meetings. We hope all GPs, both principals, salaried and locums will have completed their appraisal by the 31st March 2006. Barking and Dagenham received further training in June, tutored by Edgecumbe Consulting. This is the third round of GP appraisals and we await the Chief Medical Officer's response to the Shipman 5 report, on behalf of the Government. Until the report is in the public domain, we will continue to be unclear about the relationship between appraisal on the one hand and 5 yearly revalidation on the other. At present, GPs should be identifying their learning needs for the current round and may find the results of audit, QOF achievements and reports, prescribing reports and others useful in this regard. There are 14 Principal appraisers in Havering and are looking to recruit some non principal appraisers in the coming months. Each appraisee is asked to choose three appraisers from the 14 and they are given one of their choices. A list of appraisess is then sent to all the appriasers and they contact the Drs on their list to arrange a convenient time for the appraisal. Each appraisee is sent a pack containing return envelope, appraisal forms and details of the NHS Appraisal Toolkit. Once the appraisal is complete the form 4s and PDPs are returned to Sally Miller until Dr Kakad takes them to be opened to do his report. All the forms are returned to Sally anonymously and are kept in a secure locked cabinet. Next page: Choose & Book
